I had to pull the battery to shut the radio down. ![]() Later that week, I got to work and the lights just went out as I was parking. About 30 minutes later, the top worked and the radio went off.Ī few weeks after those problems, I had the issue with the lights. I took my daughter out for ice cream with the top down When we returned the top would not go up and the radio would not go off even after taking the key out and opening the doors. Then it started to rain and turning on the wipers did not work. That happened a few times driving down the freeway. After driving the freeway the steering would stay stiff after getting off freeway. When I started the car, the oil light issue was back. Then one day, the window on the driver side did not drop. I checked it and the oil was fine, but did an oil change anyway. Right after I got the car, I had an oil light come on. Mine started with all sorts of random things. I thought maybe some connector in the driver's door was loose, and would explain the buttons on that door not working, but why the headlights?Ĭhecking fuses? the manual uses all sorts of abbreviations that are then nowhere to be found, so I have no idea which ones I might check. AT one point I suspected the multi-function switch had a short as the intermittent lights and phantom wiper problem appeared at the same time, but that's only theory. Additionally, sometimes the wipers will come on intermittently.when the selector is in the OFF position. (Drivers were mad thinking I was flashing at them.) Also.the intermittent wipers won't work. Past issue still unresolved: after a period of use the headlights would go on and off by themselves whilst the panel lights stayed on. Also, the headlights don't work, but the panel lights come on when you turn the headlight switch. When you lock the car using the fob you can't activate the alarm. The key fobs work and still open the passenger door, but you have to manually unlock the driver's door. Putting them back in since some have short wires is a little more challenging.I have a 2002 Thunderbird, and recently the trunk lid release, driver's side window, power door lock control on driver's side do not work. The fuel temp gauge is a little more difficult to remove since it has a multitude of lights in the unit that need to be pulled out. You can tap into the wire from the regulator and connect the other end of the cells to ground or do the same thing at the gauge location. ![]() If you want to test out the gauges to see if they are working you can hook up 3 D Cell batteries in series to give 4.5 volts and that should move the dials. The regulator reduces the voltage from 12 volt to 5 volt to run the 2 gauges. I was not able to find a radio suppressor vendor. You can find replacements for the regulator at the Tbird vendors or NAPA. The constant voltage regulator is the green item and the radio suppressor is that little white cylinder attached to the bottom of the suppressor. ![]() Below is a photo of the unit and the radio suppressor. The clock can be removed by a couple screws. ![]() You can see it from under the dash but the easiest way to access it is behind the clock. The constant voltage regulator is behind the clock.
